Kindergarten Sight Words Project
We created Books, VideoS, and even DVDs to help Students learn....
Project Summary
We have created a video to be used by Kindergarten students, their teachers, and their parents/family to help the students learn and practice their sight words.
The video introduces words from the Kindergarten Sight Words List to the kindergarten students in small groups for each Nine Weeks. We began by creating a PowerPoint with transitions, animations, and voice overs. Each slide introduces a word, has the letters appear individually, repeats the word, uses the word in a sentence, includes a graphic for the sentence, then repeats the word as it is highlighted in the sentence.
We then took the PowerPoint and converted it into a windows media file. This video was saved on our school network for teachers in our building to use in their classrooms to show whole group on their Promethean Boards or individually at computer learning stations. The PowerPoint slides were also printed as a book and presented to each student to take home with them to use in practicing with their family or friends as they learn the sight words and how to read the book with or to others. We also made copies or the book for each classroom to have at their “Share with a Buddy” reading centers and computer stations.
We decided to post the video on YouTube to make it available for more people to use. We also sent a note out to teachers at other schools in our district about the YouTube link for them to use and share with their students. We also made the book available as a PDF so they could print it to use with their students.
We have also heard back from teachers in other schools and even other states who have enjoyed our video with their kids or their students. We hope that a lot of people will be able to use it to help more kids learn and have fun using our video and book.
We have also been asked by our First Grade Teachers to start working on the sight words for their grade level. That is going to be our next step with this project.
