We created slides with the words, sentences, graphics, transitions, and animations.
Our teams worked very hard on each set of words so that we could get them ready, print them, deliver them, and have the videos finished for each set of words.
Project Goal –
We created a video to be used by Kindergarten students, their teachers, and their Parents / family to help the students learn and practice their sight words.
Purpose of the Project -
We made a video introducing the Kindergarten Sight Words to the kindergarten students. We divided the words up for each Nine Weeks. We began by creating a PowerPoint with transitions, animations, and voice overs. Each slide introduces a word, shows the letters appear for each word individually, repeats the word, uses the word in a sentence, includes a graphic for the sentence, and then repeats the word as it is highlighted in the sentence.
The PowerPoint was converted to a windows media file. This video was saved in our school's Network folder for teachers to use in their classrooms to show whole group on their Promethean Boards or individually at computer learning stations. The PowerPoint slides were also printed as a book for each student to take home with them to use to practice with their parents as they learn the sight words and how to read the book with their family members.
We also made copies or the book for each classroom to have at their “Share with a Buddy” reading centers and the computer stations to read along as they watch the video. We also made dvd copies of the final videos so they could show the video during the students' lunch time in our cafeteria.
We also published the video and a pdf version of the book on our School Web Site for students, parents, teachers, and the general public to use.
The video was also published to YouTube under the “eastatgardner” account for people to use at home to work with their child as they practice and learn to read the book from home. It will also be there for students and teachers from other schools to use. They will be able to use their smartphone, iPads, or computers at school or at home to help reinforce what they are learning and give them extra practice.
as we said, Another step was to import the windows media file into Final Cut Pro 10 so that we could edit it further and then burn it to a DVD to be played in the cafeteria on the “big screen” television during the kindergarten lunch time for extra practice and exposure to the sight words.
